This week we celebrated ‘Internet Safety Day’. The theme of this year’s internet safety day was 'Be the change: unite for a better internet'. Each class took part in various different activities:

• In classes 1 and 2 the children learnt what they should do if they saw anything that upset them or anything they did not like.
• Classes 3, 4 and 5 looked at the information that is shared on line. They played games to sort out what information can be shared and what should not. They also created posters to show what information they could give out about them without giving away private information.
• Class 6 watched a video about staying safe online. They then discussed what websites and games they should and should not be playing online. The children discussed whether they should be accessing websites and games without parental guidance.
• Classes 7 and 8 worked in groups to discuss different scenarios about being online and sending messages. They then learnt that the photos they share online can be viewed forever even if they delete them.
• Classes 9 and 10 looked at the different websites and games they should be viewing and playing on. They discussed the personal information they can share online and what they should not.
• Class 11 looked at what photos should be shared on different social media. They reflected on how photos can be interpreted differently to the reality of when the photo was taken. The children then looked at images and had to decide whether they had been edited. The children found this really interesting to discover most photos online have been edited. The children then created their own emoji to explain what people should and should not post online.
