Black History

Year 6 have been finding out more about the life of Harriet Tubman in their English lessons.  They produced information reports about her life.

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."

Harriet Tubman

UKS2 have been reading and working on the book 'Hidden Figures' which covers the true story of four amazing African-American women who helped to win the Space Race.  We have learned about segregation and the civil rights movement and explored why the title of the book is 'Hidden Figures'.  One of the women in the book, Mary Jackson, had to appeal to a judge to allow her to attend a certain college which she needed to be able to do in order to achieve her dream of becoming an engineer.  We wrote letters to the judge in role as Mary.

"Every time we have a chance to get ahead, they move the finish line.

Every time."
