Learning Objective: Comparing and contrasting animals (humans) at first hand or through videos and photographs.

Secretly, the parents of Elm class sent me a photo of their child as a baby. Then yesterday the children had an exciting afternoon trying to guess who each baby was, it was amazing how many didn’t recognise themselves!

Learning Objective: Working scientifically by: Using their senses to compare different textures, sounds and smells.

This afternoon we used our senses to compare different textures, sounds and smells. To test our hearing, we listened to a range of sounds and had to guess what each noise was. We then played the “Kim’s game”, we had a range of pictures to look at, we then took the pictures away and we had to see how many we could remember. We then used touch and feel boxes. We had to put our hand in the boxes and describe what we could feel and what we thought it was. There was a teddy, jelly and a pinecone. After that we tested our sense of smell. We had different things and we had to guess what was in each pot. In the pots there was garlic, lemon and vinegar. At the end we used our mouth to taste different foods- we had to think of a word to describe each food item. The food items were lemon, chocolate buttons and salty popcorn.

Learning Objective: Identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body.

This afternoon we drew round each other and labelled the different body parts that we knew. We knew that some body parts are internal and some our external.

Learning Objective: Identify and name a variety of common animals including som fish, some amphibians, some reptiles, some birds and some mammals.

This afternoon we used Active Learn to research “reptiles”. We learned what reptiles are.  We also looked at some different reptiles and their features. We created our own class fact file.

Learning Objective: Identify and name a variety of common animals including some fish, some amphibians some reptiles, some birds and some mammals.

This afternoon we learned about different animal groups and what characteristics each group has. We then sorted animals into the different groups. After that we chose one of our favourite animals, we wrote what group they belonged to and a fact we have learned.
