Curriculum Intent

At St Peter’s we believe that all our children can shine. We strive for every member of our school family to succeed and flourish through our values-centred curriculum. We encourage our children to develop their confidence with God’s love, to challenge themselves and each other and be inspired to love God and learning, as disciples of Jesus Christ. At St Peter’s we seek to realise the potential of each individual in a supportive and caring environment. Our rich and varied curriculum enables our children to develop resilience, celebrate individuality, raise aspirations and expectations. We strive for high academic standards. In partnership with our families and community we provide a wealth of experiences in order to instil valuable life skills and confidence both for today and the children’s future beyond their time at St Peter’s.

‘Let Your Light Shine’

Matthew 5:16

At St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, our curriculum has been designed to ensure each and every child can ' let their light shine’ by offering stimulating and inspiring learning experiences with Christian values at its heart. We strive to make learning exciting and engaging through a wide range of learning opportunities that are bespoke to the needs of the children we serve by not only focusing on appropriate subject specific knowledge and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum, but by also modelling the virtues given to us by Jesus Christ.

Our ‘Big Questions’ ‘Big Conversations’ links together the knowledge our children are required to learn through our values centred curriculum to:

LOVE: Our curriculum develops children’s confidence to foster curiosity, celebrate individuality, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

CHALLENGE: Our curriculum is ambitious and stimulates children to be creative, be inquisitive, raise aspiration for themselves and each other and be educated citizens in a global world.

INSPIRE: Our curriculum is personalised for all learners where every child is valued and opportunities are given for each one to shine in their own way.

Within our ‘Big Questions’, we develop individual and collaborative learning experiences, a sense of responsibility and challenges that take them beyond the classroom and provide opportunities to develop a rich vocabulary, these are enhanced through our St Peter’s Bucket list. Our curriculum is constantly evolving, responding to the needs of our children and their interests by enhancing learning experiences and raising awareness from the local area to national and global subjects. It is through this that our children can engage in learning, develop lifelong skills and develop as individuals, to find, and ignite their own light to shine here at St Peter’s and for life beyond our gates.
