R.E. Conference, Spring Term 2026 (March)
The topic of the children's conference this year was 'Stewards of Creation'. The children learned about the role of a steward in an assembly to start the day and discussed taking care of God's creations, specifically those in and around Chorley. In the first workshop, they learned about George Washington Carver, a scientist who asked God through prayer to help him discover uses for peanuts and he invented more than 300 items using the crop. Outside, the children planted garlic bulbs to take home as well as reusing chocolate tubs from Christmas to plant salad leaves inside. St James's students spoke about charities that the school support and in the second workshop, the children had the chance to decorate their own recycled tubes to use as money boxes and were encouraged to collect donations to send to charities that they would like to support. After a break for lunch with an opportunity to play with students from other schools, the children had the final workshop of the day. Using iPads, they took photographs of God's creations outside of the school such as spring flowers and Healey Nab which they then turned into a short iMovie. The children had a great day, taking the time to really notice the beauty around them.
