Music at St. Peter's
Music is an important part of life here at St. Peter's. We aim to foster a real love of music in the children. We want them to enjoy learning about music and to look forward to their music lessons. It has been at the heart of many different events that have occurred at St. Peter’s school and further out in the community over many years. and to equip them with a music vocabulary toolbox too so that they can fully explore their responses to music.
Children enjoy learning to play a number of different instruments, including the ukulele, recorder, glockenspiel and a wide range of percussion. Furthermore, Children across all of KS1 and KS2 are taught by a specialist music teacher during weekly music lessons.
Singing goes from strength to strength at St. Peter’s. Over the years the choir has performed at a variety of venues, including Manchester Arena, The Guild Hall in Preston, Chorley Town Hall, Westholme Independent School and more locally Fosterfields Day Centre which is just along the road from school. Most recently we took part in the Chorley Big Sing at Chorley Town Hall, along with choirs from many local primary schools. It was lovely to be able to perform in front of an audience again following the pandemic. We were very proud of them!
We have a junior choir that meets after school where we prepare for events in and out of school. We want to have fun with our singing and yet at the same time ensure that the children understand the importance of warming up the voice and treating it as the valuable instrument that it is.
We give the children opportunities to experience live music whenever possible - their reactions to these experiences are wonderful to see! We have had visits from Rock Kidz and Lancashire Music Service specialists. We also have a number of rock bands in school who are taught weekly by an amazing teacher from Rocksteady. Children can choose to learn electric drums/keyboard/electric guitar or become a lead singer and develop their vocal skills. We had a concert for parents last term and we are looking forward to holding them each term this year.
