HERstory
MAPLE - YEAR 5
For HERstory, Maple class looked at the inspirational Rosa Parks. We were first introduced to her early life and then learned about how her one brave act helped start the end of segregation in America. We all liked to think that we could be as brave as Rosa was that day and hope to help in many ways in the future.
We organised her life in a time line and discussed her main characteristics before ordering them into a diamond ranking.

Ash Class had a fantastic afternoon learning about Amelia Earhart. First we looked at photos and objects to help us find out which person we would be looking at. We each made an aeroplane, ordered aeroplanes by date and made aeroplanes using small and large construction.

For HERstory afternoon, Elm class learned all about Marie Curie. The children then created videos to share the information we have found out
For HERstory, Beech class found out about Malala Yousafzai. We read about her amazing life, considered why she is a significant woman and wrote poems to show the impact of her actions. As Malala says herself:
"One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world."

Hawthorn - Year 4
We talked about how Women’s rights were very different in the past. W3 were very shocked to find that women weren’t treated equally to me.
Dr Mae Jemison enjoyed learning about science and was a very good dancer. She mad3 the decision to study science at university and became a doctor. Eventually, Mae took a job with NASA and became the first African American woman to go into orbit. She then decided that she wanted to help other people and left NASA to set up her own company.
Mae is an inspiration to all women. She challenged herself to follow her dreams.
