Science

We examined the way light travels using light boxes and torches. We pierced holes into the top of the box to see if that made a difference to what we could see inside. We discovered, that light only travels in straight lines.

To begin our Light topic we investigated how much light different fabrics let into our 'Bear Cave'. We then created a bar chart to display our results.

As a final task for our Rocks and Fossils topic, we acted like Mary Anning chipping fossils from rocks (extracting chocolate chips from chocolate chip cookies)..

Now that we understand the properties of the rocks we've grouped, we carried out various tests, to see which one would make the best gravestone and roof tiles.

As an extension of our grouping and classifying lesson we made our own sedimentary rocks using layers of white and milk chocolate. We then wrapped them in clingfilm and used heat and pressure to change the rock into a metamorphic rock.

We used a selection of cakes and chocolate bars to help with grouping and classifying rocks. We examined the properties before deciding how to group them.

We looked at a selection of rocks under the Easi-Scope Microscopes before the challenge of grouping and classifying them.

As part of Roald Dahl’s birthday celebrations, Cedar Class created their very own Scribblebots.

Here are some of our Scribblebots in action.
