Welcome

Welcome to St Peter's!

We are thrilled you have chosen to find out a little bit more about us.  Of course, the best way to truly get a feel for the school is to visit and experience the place for yourself.  But until then, let me tell you a bit more about us:

Our vision at St Peter's is 'Let Your Light Shine' Matthew 5:16.  We strive hard in all we do to achieve this for everyone within the St Peter's family; children, staff, families...everyone!

St. Peter's is a fantastic school, full of amazing children and a superb team of staff.  In 2017, Ofsted rated us "good", praising our inclusive Christian nature where all pupils are valued as individuals and which has the wellbeing of children and staff at its core.  Our most recent SIAMS inspection in 2019 graded us 'EXCELLENT' in all areas.  We are very proud of both of these judgements and all our team work incredibly hard to maintain very high standards to ensure the best education for all of our children.

Here at St Peter's, we continuously work hard to develop our own ever evolving, exciting and engaging topic based curriculum in order to teach the National Curriculum in a way that is relevant and purposeful for our children, giving a purpose and context to their learning, yet also maintaining our high standards in academic success to ensure our children achieve their potential and let their light shine!

We have an incredible school site here at St Peter's.  As well as 11 large and spacious classrooms and 3 additional teaching spaces, we have some fantastic features which provide our children with opportunities many schools can only dream of!

We have a community room with a fully fitted kitchen providing space for both children and families to learn new skills.  Our Sensory Nurture Room; the Acorn Room, provides a space for our children to be calm and learn in a quiet environment  with our learning mentor.

Outside, we are incredibly lucky.  As well as the ball court and lottery funded 'Castle & Woodland Walk' play area, we also have a huge field, complete with a mile a day running track, a large woodland area (within which our children explore the seasons, discover habitats and learn key 'bucket list' skills such as den building!), an outdoor classroom (which includes our fire pit!) and our school garden which includes allotment patches for every class.  These incredible resources are used by the whole school throughout the year, providing our children with life skills and an understanding of the world around them.  As a church school, we are also proud of how we take our worship and spiritual learning outside; both within the playgrounds but also in the grounds, such as through our Outdoor Easter Experience.

Finally, we also have a large full size stage, complete with professional sound and lighting, on which our children lead whole school worship throughout the year (which families are welcome to join us for) as well as performing at key points in the year, as well as learning about stage design, lighting desks and allowing them to build their confidence in front of an audience.

Here at St Peter's we want to find time for our children to develop their own interests and skills across the curriculum.  That's why we created 'Let your light shine' afternoons!  Every Friday afternoon during the summer term, we identify with the children a skill or talent in which they have shone that year, to then continue to nurture and develop in a series of lessons.  They then take part in the course over a series of weeks before they graduate and share what they have learnt with others.  The courses have recently included wood work, drama, sculpting, cookery, forest schools adventures, multi-skills sports and coding, but these evolve to provide children with an ever changing list of possibilities based on the talents which shine through over the year.   We also offer a wide number of clubs after school and take part in competitions and large events throughout the year, details of which are shared and celebrated through the weekly newsletter and via our own Social Media App; Class Dojo!

We are proud to be a church school here at St Peter's.  Our Christian Vision, 'Let your light shine' underpins all we do, while our 6 key Christian values (Friendship, Compassion, Peace, Love, Trust and Respect) form the bedrock of our ethos in school, where we teach our children how to be outstanding members of society.  We teach our children to love, forgive and respect one another and embed this within our day to day management of behaviour.  Class Dojo, our behaviour management system, also ensures that parents are kept fully informed about their child(rens) achievements, successes and behaviour.  We endeavour to nurture thoughtful, resilient and caring pupils who will go on to make a great contribution to our future society...and let their light shine, always!

I hope that I have given you a little taste of life here at St Peter's.  Enjoy exploring the website to discover more about the fantastic things our children have experienced and achieved recently, thanks to our incredibly hard working and dedicated team of teachers and support staff.

As I said at the start though, the best way to discover St Peter's is to visit!

Call us on 01257 262625 as we would love to show you round our wonderful school or answer any of your questions.

Until then, enjoy looking around the website!
