Computer Science

Beech class had a fantastic visit from Junior Stem Lego becoming robotic engineers. We built programmable monkeys out of Lego and then after building them we had to use different algorithms to programme them to move, speak and play different songs.  We then learned how to use sensors to control them and get them to perform different actions.

Year 1 has started their coding lessons! The children were very excited to know that they were coders  just like the people that created Minecraft and Fortnite! The children learned the words programming and debugging!
Year 5 began developing their Coding skills by learning to write code, which could program the speed of an object. We then worked on how to program buttons to increase or decrease the speed of the car and to bring it to a stop. Next, we worked on using variables to control the direction and speed of a car within a game. We used all our new learning to design and create our own simple driving game.
Using the coding skills we have worked on this term, Year 5 have developed our own game app.  We had to consider what the aim of our simple app was and then also work out the code that would allow it to work.
