Faith Street Week

We started off "Faith Street" by discussing the different values we have in our school. We visited our tree display in the hall to discuss the meaning of each value.
We then answered the question "what is religion?"  The children worked as a group to discuss what they think religion is.
This afternoon we are very lucky! We are learning how to Hindu dancing!

This morning we were very lucky! We learnt about Islamic clothing. Mrs Patel brought in her special clothes that she wears. We learnt there are different dresses she wears for mosque and special events. We learnt that boys wear special hats when they go to mosque.

We also learnt that in the Jewish religion they wear a tallit to help them worship. There are 613 knots and thread in each tallit. This is to represent the commandments that are found in the torah.

The children were then, if they wanted to, able to try on a topi hat, hijab scarf and a special dress that Muslims wear for weddings!

This afternoon we have been trying Hindu and Muslim food! We have tried Samosas, Kebabs, Barfee, Soji, Jalebi and Dates, Zardo, Falloda!
We then got to make our own chapatis
This morning we have had a Muslim visitor! She told us all about the rules she has to follow. She brought lots of things to show us about her religion. The children really enjoyed this.
We have had a Jewish visitor. Jeremy showed the children some Kippahs that Jewish boys wear. Some children were then able to try on a Tallit.  He then taught them a song to remember Hashem.
