Faith Week

Jeremy, our Jewish visitor, explained all about his religion. He showed us what Jews would wear to prayer and talked about the Synagogue which is his place of worship.

Mr Anwar is a Muslim. He came to speak to us about his religion. Attiyah and Tayyab were able to to help and demonstrated to us how they pray.

In small groups, we designed and made a Mosque or Church from shoe boxes. We thought carefully about the features inside and outside the buildings.

We made our own Christingle in class and once lit, we said a prayer for those less fortunate at Christmas time.

Classes 7 and 8 were visited by Mr Bloom, who came to talk to us about his religion of Judaism.  He told us all about the special festival of light called Hanukkah, which is celebrated by Jewish people.  First of all, he told us the story of Hanukkah and why it is such an important festival.  He then introduced us to some of the special traditions that Jewish people take part in to celebrate.  We played a special game with a spinning top called a dreidel or sevivon.  Then we got the opportunity to light the Menorah and reflect on why light is so important across many religions.  Finally, Mr Bloom kindly shared some traditional Hanukkah treats- doughnuts cooked in oil, as a reminder of the oil in the Temple menorah.  We all learned a lot of new facts about the festival and enjoyed meeting our special visitor.

Classes 7 and 8 have been busy not only rehearsing for our Harvest Assembly in Church on Friday, but also making chocolate apples on lolly sticks. Some of the apples are from our own apple trees we grow in our garden.

We have sold them during break-time as we are using this enterprise opportunity to collect money for Bishop Julian's Fund to help young children in Zimbabwe.

Apples will be on sale during Wednesday and Thursday break time for 50p. Mrs Hoole has also been busy by baking delicious flapjacks and cakes using the plums from our own plum trees. Thank you so much Mrs Hoole and the children for donating time, talent and resources to collect for this charity.

We visited Church for the Crossroads Celebration. The morning was spent doing fun activities linked to prayer. We had a lovely time thinking of others.
