BOTANICAL PAINTINGS OF FLOWERS
To help our our science topic on 'Plants' we looked at work by botanical artists and then made observational drawings developed in watercolour. We had lilies and a range of other flowers which helped us to observe the anatomy of plants.
DEVELOPING LIGHT AND SHADE
To accompany our topic of 'Light' in science and R.E., we have developed our shading techniques by drawing still life in shadow using candles. We looked at an artist Georges de la Tour who loved painting in candlelight as he was obsessed with creating the effect of light and shade.
We used charcoal and chalk to create variations of darkness and 2B and 6B to draw 3-d objects around candlelight.
MARK-MAKING AND INVESTIGATING DRAWING MATERIALS
We looked at the artist Keith Haring to help give us ideas for a great classroom.
Next we investigated 2B, 6B, graphite sticks, charcoal and chalk and a range of pens to explore all the different marks we can make and the qualities of each drawing implement.
