We have learnt about William Caxton. William Caxton was the first person to print a book in the English language. We found out that before this, people had to hand write each copy of a book. We decided that he was a significant person in History as he changed the way books were written resulting in books being made more easily available for people to read.
We then used stamps to print our name - the children said this was easier than hand writing it!
We recalled the facts we have learnt about seaside holidays in the past. We discussed what had changed and what still happens today. The children noticed some things still happen today like they did in the past however it has changed slightly for example children played with buckets and spades in the past as they do now but the material they are made from has changed. We then sorted photographs out into a Venn diagram to show whether it was a seaside in the past, now or both.
We discussed what the words “famous” and “significant“ mean. The children then thought what makes somebody “significant” and what makes “someone famous”. We then looked at different people and discussed it the children knew them. The children then ordered the people in order of significance in their opinion. The children then orally justified their order.
