Living in the Wider World

Year 4 have learnt about deforestation and how this is affecting the World’s Rainforests. We had a great debate on this topical issue

Mr Souter from Debt Aware came to work with Beech class on the topic of Debt and Money skills for life.  We explored the differences between wants and needs and how we should always budget for our needs first, before we think about our wants.

We worked on budgeting and realised how challenging it can be to make money stretch for all the things we need and want.  We discussed what debt means and what can happen when we get into debt.  It was a very interesting session with lots of sensible ideas and thoughts raised.

Parliament week

Our year 6 school councillors were invited to the town hall to find out a little more about parliament. We met Sir Lindsay Hoyle and the Mayor of Chorley. They spoke about their roles within parliament and we had the opportunity to ask them questions. After refreshments, we took part in 2 debates with children from other schools.

Our school hosted a Careers fair for key stage 2. We visited lots of stands to find out more about different careers. We were inspired by a doctor, midwife, the police, a vet, Preston college, the army, sports coaches and many more.

After our careers fair, all children in school took part in our dress up day, ‘When I grow up .....’ Our children are aspiring to so many different careers.

Year 3 and 4 children took part in a virtual water safety workshop presented by the Canal and Rivers Trust. We learnt about th dangers of open waters and thought about ways in which we can stay safe and help people in trouble.

Safety Seymour came Cedar Class to discuss the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning and the dangers of this invisible gas.

One of our pupils wrote a letter to Miss Brown asking if we could support the families of Ukraine. He came to our meeting to ask for our help. Children created posters asking for donations of teddies and toiletries. We help a blue and yellow non uniform day to show our support.

Ash Class have been learning about saving. The children had to decide whether to spend or save their challenge pennies.
