Observation Over Time

In Elm class this afternoon we learned about the importance of brushing our teeth. We learned that different foods can affect our teeth differently. We found out that sugary, sticky food is not good for teeth as it sticks to the surface, bacteria then break down the sugar to make acid which can damage teeth.

 

We have decided to investigate what happens to our teeth when we drink different things.  We poured the same amount of fizzy drink, coffee and vinegar into a container, we also covered an egg in toothpaste. We are going to leave them for a week and see what happens to the eggs.

 

 

 

To begin our Living things and habitats topic, Beech class explored our local environment for evidence of the different living things we could find.  We took photos and will return in the Summer term, so that we can observe what changes have occurred over time.

After we grouped, classified and made teeth and understood their functions, year 3 tested the effects of popular drinks on them, using eggshell as a substitute material for our teeth.

In KS1,  we looked at the importance of our hygiene.


We discussed how to look after our bodies and the importance of washing our hands.


We did an experiment to observe the importance of washing our hands. First we cut up an apple and placed the pieces into 4 clear test tubes. Labelled untouched, quick wash (touched), Dirty hands (touched) and Clean hands (controlled wash).


We will observe the apples over time to see what happens! 

Our second experiment was to see how well we was our hands. We all had germs (Glitter bug) put on our hands and rubbed in. We then went to wash our hands and then we placed our hands under the UV light to see how clean our hands were and if there were still germs on them.
