KS1 Toys

This afternoon we started our new topic “toys”. We looked a painting called “Children’s Games” by Pieter Bruegel. We looked at what we could see happening in the painting, what toys the children were playing with and also what games they would have been playing. We then talked about the games the adults in the class used to play in school. We then went outside to play some of the traditional games like throwing a ball against a wall, ring a ring o’ roses and some clapping songs!

This afternoon we looked at toys! The children had to sort them into groups and then had to say why they had grouped them in that way. We then learnt about old toys. We know that most old toys were made from wood and metal and were very expensive to buy as they were made by hand! Robots used to be wound up to walk, instead of using batteries like today. The children also said that old toys look boring and smell! We then sorted the toys our into old and new.
