Phonics

'Let Your Light Shine'

Matthew 5:16

Welcome to Phonics at St Peter's CE Primary School

Phonics is essential in supporting children as they learn to read and is taught daily within EYFS and KS1 following the Phonics Bug programme. All home reading and guided reading books are categorised in accordance to the phonic phases to ensure that the children receive the right balance in order to be successful at reading using the skills they have been taught in phonic lessons.

Our primary focus in EYFS is to teach and support decoding through phonics, with the end goal of fluency. In KS1, children build on these skills progressing to split digraphs, spelling rules and the ability to read a range of tricky words.

Our Phonics Policy (updated 2021 in accordance with statutory requirements)
